Separated Families

28 Nov 2013

I attended a workshop on 21 November organised by http://www.familyseparationclinic.co.uk/ on 'Understanding and working with the alienated child'. This was a training course for social workers, family court professionals and others working with high conflict family separation. Much of the workshop dwelt on negotiating the entrenched view of respecting children's wishes, with the mounting evidence that high conflict separation and any subsequent parental alienation, in itself makes these an unreliable guide to what is really going on in the inner world of the child. The whole area of Parental Alienation is at last on the horizon of social workers and family court professionals in this country, something that has long been the case in Australia and Canada for instance.
